During the Siege of York, the inn, then known as the Bird in Hand, was ravaged by fire when the Earl of Manchester`s men bombarded the city in June 1644. Over a hundred years later, it was rebuilt and renamed the Lamb & Lion by a wealthy merchant. Today, the inn offers an excellent selection of real ales, wines and champagnes, alongside home-cooked food, with daily specials featuring good, simple dishes prepared using fresh ingredients.
