Grafton House Hotel ****Formerly a private residence, on possibly the best street in Durham City, this boutique hotel has been created with love, care and meticulous attention to detail. Not only are the interiors stunning, but the hotel is situated in a conservation area and enjoys breathtaking views of Durham Castle and cathedral. We have 10 individual bedrooms that allow you to escape from the hustle and bustle and stresses of the outside world. Recharge your batteries, relax and enjoy. Cancellation Policy: If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged. Children and Extra Bed Policy: All children are welcome. All children under 1 year stay free of charge when using existing bedding. All children under 2 years stay free of charge for cots. By Car From the A1 North/South: - At junction 62, take the A690 signposted to Durham. - At the first roundabout, follow the road straight on down the hill towards a second roundabout. - Turn left. - Go straight on through the first set of traffic lights. - At the next set of lights – take the right fork. - Follow this road to the next set of traffic lights. - Turn right. - Go straight over a roundabout. - Take the next right, turning down a slip road. If you miss it, take the next right turning. - This road leads onto South Street, and you will now be running parallel with the river. - The cathedral will be visible on your right-hand side. - The road will start to narrow, and when you see railings on your right, you have arrived. Grafton House is a large grey building on your left. - Pull up outside to offload luggage. See below for parking options. Parking: Limited parking is available on South Street as it is within a conservation area. There is metered parking and staff will happily locate a space and valet park your vehicle. There is some garage parking approximately 100 metres from the hotel. There is off-site parking for guests who will not need a car for the duration of their stay. South Street is a one-way street and without directions it is not that easy to find. Please contact the hotel for assistance with directions. The postcode for satellite navigation is: DH1 4QP. By Train GNER has very good rail links to Durham and the station is only 5 minutes from the hotel. You can be met from the station and driven to Grafton House. By Air The hotel is 30 minutes from Newcastle Airport and 40 minutes from Durham Tees Valley. Transport can be arranged to meet you from the airport and drive you to Grafton House. With its mighty cathedral, historic city and centuries-old university, ancient Durham is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and architecturally significant cities in the world. Whether you prefer country houses and gardens, historic castles or museums there is plenty to visit in North-East England. The North-East is home to many National Trust properties, for example, Cragside is an extraordinary Victorian house set in dramatic and varied gardens.
