Calderbank Country Lodge ****This Georgian property rests in picturesque countryside on the edge of the Forest of Bowland, midway between Preston and Lancaster. Personally managed by the owners Rowland and Lesley, Calderbank offers friendly service and comfortable accommodation. Bedrooms are excellently appointed, and the restaurant offers superb local produce. A wide range of drinks are available, including locally brewed cask ales. Local attractions include the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston, that houses paintings, sculpture and other artworks that bring to life the history of this region. Blackpool is only 25 miles from the hotel. Calderbank Country Lodge has been inspected by Visit Britain and accredited with the Four Star Silver Award for Guest Accommodation. The restaurant and bar have been independently assessed and given a Taste Lancashire Quality Assured status with the added distinction of using local produce in the majority of dishes. Cancellation Policy: If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged. Children and Extra Bed Policy: All children are welcome. All children under 8 years stay free of charge when using existing bedding. There is no capacity for extra beds/cots in the room. Deposit Policy: No deposit will be charged. VAT and city/tourist taxes: VAT is included. Service charge is included. City/tourist tax is not applicable. By Car: From the North: - Leave the M6 at junction 33, signposted Garstang. - At the roundabout on the A6 exit for Garstang and, immediately, take the 1st left onto a small country road. - Continue to the T-junction and turn right. - Follow this road for around 6 miles, passing over the crossroads at The Fleece public house. - After crossing 2 sets of cattle grids on Harris End Fell, Calderbank is 100 yards on the left past Oakenclough paper mill, where an industrial chimney can be clearly seen. From the South: - From the M6 at junction 32 follow the A6 north for Garstang through Bilsborrow and Barton. - At the 1st turning for Garstang after the end of speed restrictions, bear right onto a local road. - Continue until Garstang Country Hotel and Golf Club, then turn right for Calder Vale and Oakenclough on Calder Lane. - Follow this country lane crossing over a canal bridge, under a railway bridge and over the motorway. - Bear left following signs for Calder Vale and Oakenclough. - Follow this country road for around 3 miles, passing by a right turn for Calder Vale. - Follow the country road over a hill and down to a T-junction at Oakenclough Mill. - Turn right and Calderbank is 100 yards on the left. Oakenclough is a small community, developed largely as a result of a paper mill that made use of the water power available from the River Calder. Dating from the early 19th century, the mill is still in use today. Built by public subscription, St John`s Church and the small church school next to it, stand at the top of Church Wood between Calder Vale and Oakenclough. Total number of rooms: 5 |
