Althorp House (7 km/ 4 miles) - Althorp has been home to the Spencer Family since 1508. On 6 September 1997 the Park became the focal point for the world`s attention, when Diana, Princess of Wales was laid to rest there after her tragically early death. She now lies on the island in the Round Oval, an ornamental lake, surrounded by her family`s ancestral heritage. Billing Aquadrome (5 km/ 3 miles)- An extensive and popular area of water south-east of Northampton, Billing Aquadrome is home to powerboats, jet skis, fishing and birdwatching. A pleasure park, amusement centre, swimming pool and fast food outlets complete the picture. Canons Ashby House (22 km/ 14 miles) - One of the oldest and most romantic of Northamptonshire`s great houses and one of the county`s hidden gems. This ancient courtyard house has been the home of the Dryden family since the 1550s. It contains Elizabethan wall paintings and sumptuous Jacobean plasterwork and has formal gardens with terraces, a medieval church and parkland. Total number of rooms: 33 |
