Total Journey Time: approximately 75 minutes. - Take the N19, following signs to Limerick (and the N18). - Once on the N18, continue towards Limerick. - Once you pass Bunratty Castle and Folk Park Limerick, follow signs for Dublin (the N7). - At Parkway Roundabout, stay on the N7. - Continue on the N7, heading straight on through a further 3 roundabouts. - You will go through Annacotty. Stay on the N7. You will pass through the Lisnagry Station level crossing. - When you reach the Birdhill post office in Nenagh, follow signs for Birr, Portumna (the N52). - When you reach Borrisokane, switch to the N65 (follow signs for Portumna). The imposing ruins of Portumna Castle, currently being restored to its original grandeur, are worth a visit. Located within the precinct of the castle, there are also ruins of a Dominican Friary built around 1425 and destroyed in 1540. Being on the tip of the Shannon`s largest lake, Portumna offers a variety of activities for the water enthusiast, including jet skiing, sailing, wind surfing, boating and power boat racing.
