Old Coastguard Hotel ***Set in sub-tropical gardens leading to the sea, above the beautiful fishing village of Mousehole, this charming hotel boasts unspoiled panoramic views of Mounts Bay, and excellent links to the A30. Mousehole is a vibrant Cornish community and remarkably traditional village. The south arm of the harbour dates to 400AD and was the embarkation point for pilgrims, today it provides a perfect base from which to explore this delightful `little land`. It remains, in the words of Dylan Thomas, `The most beautiful village in England`. In the evenings, after a long day of exploring, you can relax with a visit to the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, sun lounge or outside garden terrace, where you can enjoy a wonderful meal, relaxed ambience and incomparable views. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to stay at the hotel. The hotel prides itself on the use of fresh produce, sourced locally. With Newlyn on the doorstep, all the fish comes straight from the market, while the meat is supplied by a well-known local butcher. The menus are contemporary and innovative and are frequently changed. The chefs bake a choice of specialist breads daily, and the petit fours, ice creams and sorbets are created by the pastry chef. The light, informal atmosphere, smart service and fine food have led to success in several national award programmes.
