In the 18th and 19th century, the region of Pomerania was rich in half-timbered buildings. These constructions have been preserved until today in many provinces of the valley of Słupia. The village of Swołowo is known as the capital of the Chequered Land. There are numerous 19th century half-timbered farms and workshops in the region. The Słowiński National Park is one of the most unique places in Europe, mainly for its fauna and flora. There are moving sand dunes resembling the desert landscape. This is the only place where dunes descend to the lake and to the forest at the same time. Air currents make the sand move inland by 10 to 20 metres a year, covering everything on its way. In 1977, the Słowiński National Park was added to the list of UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves. In the valley of Słupia, there are 5 water power stations: Skarszów Dolny, Krzynia, Strzegomino, Gałąźnia Mała and Struga. The stations’ storage tanks, channels, dams and weirs are carefully integrated into the landscape, making this one of the most beautiful spots in the natural landscape of the Słupia Valley. Tourists visiting the area today can observe how these authentic old machines still work reliably work now, having been carefully preserved and maintained. The Museum of Central Pomerania is located in the Castle of the Pomeranian Princes. It has the largest and the most splendid collection of paintings by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz in the world. Currently, the collection of the artist’s works consists of over 200 paintings, mostly portraits in pastels on paper. Total number of rooms: 3 |
