The town is famous for its curative natural mineral springs and there are many spas in the town providing relaxation, mineral baths and therapeutic spa treatments. The clear mountain water of the river led to the establishment of a paper mill over 400 years ago. Though it has undergone many changes in the intervening years, Duszniki Zdrój is still home to a working paper mill. The on-site museum, illustrating the mill??™s evolution over the years, is well worth a visit. Each August Duszniki Zdrój plays host to the International Chopin Festival. The festival was instituted in 1946, to commemorate the charity recitals of Fryderyk Chopin in the town in 1826. The festival is the oldest in Poland and the largest Chopin festival in the world, attracting some of the greatest pianists. The surrounding region of Duszniki Zdrój is ideal for hiking and mountain biking. The area also offers some of the finest winter sports and skiing. The nearby ski resort and winter sports centre at Zieleniec is one of the most popular in the Sudety mountain region. Closer to Duszniki Zdrój, Podgórze also offers ski slopes, a bobsleigh run and horseback riding at the Panderoza Ranch. Jamrozowa Polana is the Polish Biathlon centre and has marked running trails and a rifle range. The Stołowe Mountains National Park has great hiking trails, nature walks, fantastic scenery and spectacular views.
