This lodge, located close to the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, is a great base from which to explore the Elephant Coast.

Bordering the St. Lucia Estuary, Hippo Hideaway welcomes guests to relax in style. Read a book in one of the hammocks or enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool. The thatched boma is the ideal spot to get used to the pace of life in Zululand.

By car:
- Follow the N2 North.
- Approximately 50 km from Empangeni take the Mtubatuba/St Lucia turn-off.
- Continue for about 2 km and at T- junction turn left.
- Continue for about 1km, then take the St Lucia turn-off on your right.
- After continuing for approximately 25 km on St Lucia Road, you will reach St
Lucia Town.
- Turn right onto Mckenzie Street.
- After approximately 800 meters you will see Hippo Hideaway on your
right-hand side.

Thanks to its location, Hippo Hideaway is often visited by wildlife that comes and grazes in the early morning. Bird enthusiasts, especially, can watch bird life in abundance.
